Dentals Crowns – Restoring Damaged Teeth

A crown (also referred to as a “cap”) may be recommended to:

•Restore broken teeth
•Support a tooth that is weakened by a large filling, or several smaller ones
•Rebuild a tooth after a root canal
•Correct a bite
•Improve the appearance of a discolored tooth
•Restore a dental implant
•Provide support for bridgework

Materials for Dental Crowns

Crowns can be created using two different types of material. You can choose from:

•Porcelain (Metal-Free) – This is a good choice if your crown will show. An all-porcelain crown resembles the color and translucency of real teeth and may work best if you have a metal allergy. Porcelain crowns can wear down opposing teeth, however, and are not as durable as gold crowns.

•Gold – Dental crowns made of gold have been used for thousands of years, and for good reason. They are very strong, and can stand up to years of chewing and teeth grinding. Gold crowns can last for decades if cared for properly.

• Combination of the two materials above.

As always, we keep any discomfort to a minimum. Getting a crown or bridge is typically not painful, though you may have some sensitivity following the preparations. We generally use anesthesia to numb your tooth/teeth during crown or bridge treatments.

We do not offer same-day crown service as we believe laboratory crown fabrication produces a higher quality result.
